Just back from a great week exploring the lanes and tracks of Northumbria with Pete Girling and Atlas Overland. 6 cars including the Atlas Troopy and some varied terrain to test Nifty’s mods and setup. Everything worked nicely except the aux battery charging which was intermittent. Fixed now! I had wired the ignition sense wire from the Nemo DC to DC charger to the rear wiper circuit rather than the rear aux power circuit meaning that it charged only when the rear wipers were on! Dumb error but easily fixed. Alpicool fridge freezer was quiet and effective. Th drawers worked well and we put the on-board air to use on the trail supporting a puncture repair on one of the group vehicles. Water tank was great, leak free and sustained plenty of harsh off-road driving while full with no issues. The upper shelf remained solid throughout. I am going to work on tyres and ground clearance next as well as stiffening the rear end. On the full load we wanted for an inch more clearance and less bounce. We tested the factory underbody protection and exposed some weaknesses in some of the underbody wiring runs which didn’t like the brush from the tall grass when in the deep ruts. Better solution needed there from JLR in my view. All in all a great shakedown and lots of ideas for further tweaks and mods. Already planning the next trip out. Alps? Arctic Circle?
